The journey begins

In addition to school, family, and work – I’ve decided to add “get healthier” to my list of things to-do. I realize this sounds cliché, but for me now was the time. I’m home alone most days, aching for something to do and dying for a little activity that doesn’t include being in the bitter cold behind a snow blower or shovel.

I realized that I realistically do not eat terribly. Truthfully, we make a lot of good choices at our house, which did make me proud! However, it appears that the portions and frequency are definitely downsides for me. I’m sure one or two of you have a similar problem. In addition, while I do chase a child around frequently and take care of the house – its not getting my heart rate up to help. Clearly, some form of exercise would be beneficial. Looking at my hurdles, I realized I need to track my food better and be accountable.

Oh yeah, did I also mention that I’m cheap? I’m not paying someone to help me with this.

Which lead me to a GREAT website! Sparkpeople (www.sparkpeople.com) is an easy to navigate online health, exercise, fitness, and diet mega site! Recipes, food diary, work out goals, work out plans, online support communities…the possibilities are endless! The only real limit it YOU yourself and YOUR dedication!

For me, I have chronic back problems, which has led me to my yoga practice. It helps me be able to function. With Sparkpeople I can track the calories I’ve burned during my yoga and compensate with an appropriate amount of cardio. It’s the perfect combination of what is best for my personal health and what is best for my weight loss journey!

My goal is 20-25 pounds off of me. I’m being realistic. I’ll never be that high school, pre-baby, pre-30’s size. It’s really not a reasonable goal for me. But I will be healthy. And I will feel good. And I will be happy!

Do yourself a favor and check this site out. And follow my blog for updates on me, tips that I find, and some recipes to help you meet your goals! If you have a great tip, resource, recipe, or motivator for everyone – please send it along or leave a comment!
